Epistemological contributions of Deleuzian pluralism in Difference and Repetition

Abstract

This paper proposes a reconstruction of the concept of science located in Gilles Deleuze’s Difference and repetition. The article is comprised by three moments: first, we will display a series of notions taken from the Hume’s empiricism and Nietzsche’s empiricism recreated by Deleuze that allow us to introduce in the topic of the place of thought regarding the hole of the human experience and in the subject of the grounding of science. The two following parts center on Difference and repetition, whereas the first expose issues regarding the ontology of the transcendental empiricism, and the second focus on trying to organize the main pieces of the pluralist concept of science which Deleuze portrays in the third and fourth chapters of such book. To that aim, we will take as a common thread what can be regarded as “the cycle of knowledge”. The final purpose of this approach is to offer a sustained answer to the question about what kind of place can the transcendental empiricism assure for a possible vitalist science.
