In this work we will try to demonstrate how Plato’s philosophical exercise is based on the use of images. In this sense, we start from the idea that the images used by the philosopher in the Republic shape the content of its dialogue. In turn, these images are based on the theory of the Line exposed in the middle of the dialogue and are articulated in three axes according to an aspect of reality that stands out. We will call these images impressionistic, realistic or romantic to use the terminology typical of the aesthetics of the XIX century for offering us defining features that will allow us to identify the various uses of images in Plato.
