Abstract

The Commission of the Second Vatican Council tasked with drafting the document on dialogue with non-Christian religions, had to overcome numerous obstacles. First, it faced a highly complex global context, characterized by intense political tensions as well as cultural and social conflicts. At the same time, it had respond to strong resistance from a significant sector of the Roman Curia that opposed any changes to traditional doctrine. The main challenge, however, lay in redefining the Church’s relationship with the Jewish community in the aftermath of the Holocaust, an event that demanded a profound revision of historical and theological positions. To this end, it became necessary to reformulate certain parts of the Good Friday liturgy, an initiative that generated intense debate and controversy within ecclesiastical circles. In light of this context, this essay aims to provide a concise analysis of the historical drafting process of Nostra Aetate, in order to help readers understand the complexity of its development and to appreciate, from this perspective, the progress made by the Council in the field of interreligious dialogue.

Tiene estudios en Teología en la Universidad de Rostock (Alemania) y es doctora en Teología por la misma casa de estudios. Fue profesora adjunta en la Facultad de Teología de la Universidad de Rostock. Profesora de pre y postgrado de la Universidad Nacional San Marcos y en la Universidad Antonio Riuz de Montoya. Publicó Christa Wolfs Kindheitsmuster für christliche Leser (1987), Ciencias de la religión en el Perú (2002), además artículos en revistas especializadas.
